Section 48: Informing Someone About the Arrest
1. Telling Someone About the Arrest: When someone is arrested, the police must quickly tell a family member, friend, or other person chosen by the arrested person about the arrest and where the person is being held. They must also tell a special police officer in charge of keeping track of arrests.
2. Telling the Arrested Person: The police must tell the arrested person that they have the right to have someone informed about their arrest as soon as they are taken to the police station.
3. Keeping a Record: The police must write down who was told about the arrest in a special book.
4. Checking the Record: The judge who sees the arrested person must make sure that the police followed the rules about telling someone about the arrest.
